Exterior facing
With contemporary homes in vogue, galvanized steel siding is gaining in popularity. Not only is it available in a wide variety of colours and designs (solid, woodgrain, shaped, imitation of certain precious metals, etc.), it’s versatile, easy to install, impervious and weather-resistant.

Windows
We see more and more homes opening up to the outdoors, establishing a relationship between the rooms inside and nature. Windows are taking up more space than ever (whether they are more numerous or oversized), and they are positioned according the view they give. When a house is being built on densely wooded or isolated land offering a spectacular view, windows sometimes take up entire walls! Similarly, patio doors, transom windows and front door sidelights also come in extra large sizes for brighter rooms with more fluidity between the outdoors and indoors. As for style, straight lines and dark colours (charcoal, black, etc.) are always popular.

Stairs
Stairs used to just be built in the middle of the house, and everything else was arranged around them. However, new contemporary homes are placing this functional element elsewhere, often along a wall, looking onto many windows. That way, they catch the eye from inside and outside the house! While still a focal point, stairs are less bulky and suit sleeker, more open spaces. Central stringers (in black or stainless steel) and glass handrails are ideal for this look.

Kitchen
Wood is making its way into the kitchen! Hardwood and engineered wood flooring have one-upped ceramic, bringing warmth and comfort to new, sleek kitchens. Wood floors are certainly worth the investment: not only are they durable and timeless, they complement every decor! Wood cabinets are also making a major comeback. Something to keep in mind: for a more modern look, make sure the grain runs vertically rather than horizontally.

Sleeker rooms and practical spaces are on trend, making integrated storage a key feature in new homes. Some storage compartments are closed and well hidden, blending in perfectly with their surroundings, while others are open, so that daily objects easily accessible.
