Colour trends in decorating for 2020

Whether or not you keep up with the latest trends, it’s always interesting to see what colours paint manufacturers and major interior decorators have decided should be gracing our brushes this year. Here are five that will be making a splash on the decorating scene in 2020!

1. Classic Blue

Every year in December, the Pantone Color Institute announces the outstanding colour that will influence fashion creators and interior designers for the upcoming year. For 2020, the institute chose Classic Blue 19‑4052, a shade that inspires calm and peace of mind.

Pair it with:

  • White, for a dazzling look
  • Cool or warm grey, for a contemporary look
  • Black, for a deep and rich pairing
  • Loud tones (yellow, lime green, orange) for an invigorating feel

Zenith

Blue trimmed with grey and set against the lined design of the Zenith doorglass accentuates this home’s contemporary style while still adding a unique new touch.

2. Yellow-hued greens

Whether it’s fern green, lawn green or leek green, when this colour most often associated with hope takes on yellow hues it really creates a natural ambiance. Do you think this has something to do with the rise of environmental awareness? It seems likely!

Pair it with:

  • Natural, stained (copper-coloured) or roasted wood, for a 100%-natural look
  • Charcoal grey, for a comforting effect
  • Light grey, for a soothing ambiance
  • White, for an invigorating feel

Fluid

Our Fluid doorglass with its organic pattern is in perfect harmony with the raw materials covering this home’s facade and the green hue of the door. It blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings!

3. Spicy Red

There’s been a quiet return in interior decorating to reds with brown pigments such as nutmeg, chili pepper red or paprika. Why not add some spice to your life! Terra cotta is also popular, and it goes hand in hand with the trend for artisanal crafts that’s so in vogue right now.

Pair it with:

  • Dark wood, for a lush and warm feel
  • Bluish-green, for a moderate contrast
  • Neutral and light shades, for a bolder contrast
  • Charcoal grey, for a comforting ambiance

Soho

Choose a warm-coloured door like this cinnamon red. It’s a great way to thaw the icy feel of some contemporary buildings. Just look at how well it warms up this home’s entry.

4. Beige

Many colour designers have called beige the new white. And just like white, beige can take on undertones of other colours. It’s the perfect trend if you love decor that’s simultaneously well-lit, warm and soothing.

Pair it with:

  • Natural wood, for a Scandinavian look
  • White, to really amplify the light
  • Black, for a contemporary look
  • Other shades of beige, for a monochrome spectrum

630

This kitchen that looks out onto the outdoors is an oasis of calm thanks to our 630 patio door! The light beige wall subtly directs your gaze to the view outside, making nature the real star of the show.

5. Browns with yellow or orange undertones

If you’re a food connoisseur, you’ll eat up honey, amber or caramel shades. If it’s more of a wandering spirit you’ve got, perhaps you’d prefer hues of camel or desert sand! No matter what you choose, all these colours help add a dash of calm to the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Pair it with:

  • Dark blue, for a perfect contrast
  • Spicy red, for a warm match
  • Green, for a natural pairing
  • White, woods and natural fibres, for a bohemian look

Winchester
