Front Door Refresh with Novatech!
Hello! My name is Kirsten; so nice to meet you. I am the creator behind the DIY, Home Decor, & Renovation instagram @kirsten.diane. I am hopping onto the Novatech Blog to share my experience with our brand new high performance steel door. I was so excited to team up with Novatech to get rid of our old front door and give the house a fresh new look for the new year!
In my opinion the front door could be considered the heart of your home. It really is a huge part of both the exterior AND interior design. It is so often overlooked but It’s the first welcoming element, so we should put as much love into it as we would the rest of our spaces. I wanted to start off with a little before picture of our previous old wooden door, which was cracked, drafty and ready for an update!
With the help of Novatech Doors Designers, Entryguard Doors manufacturers and installation by Keldan Windows and Door, we were able to achieve this!
Novatech recommended their new high performance steel door & I am so grateful for it! It sounds heavy duty, because it is. This is the thickest door I’ve ever seen, and there’s a reason for it. It is amazing at keeping all that cold Canadian winter air out and that precious warm air in. Since the install our house feels EXTRA cozy. Being a thicker door also makes it sturdy, durable & high quality. This door will last and grow with our little family!
When working on the design of our door with Novatech, I chose to have it painted a specific colour, and here's why. I live in a small open concept bungalow so as soon as you walk in the door you are greeted with our living/dining room & kitchen,. The kitchen is very bold, all dark blue cabinets, your eye is drawn right to it. So, I wanted to reflect some of the homes interior personality on the exterior. I chose to have our door the same colour as our cabinets (Benjamin Moore, Racoon fur), to create an inviting welcome to our home. And don’t get me started on that satin brass lever handle, talk about elegance!
After nailing down the colour, the next important request I had was LIGHT, I needed to get the most light coming through this new front door without it being full glass. We also needed privacy. So the window glass insert in the door is a little longer than a standard window which makes such a difference when that sun shines in! Another fun way to add visual interest to your door window is to switch up the texture, which is what we did. A few of the horizontal panes of glass have a rippled effect, We get compliments constantly from our neighbours, such a perfect balance.
We couldn’t be more pleased with the entirety of our new Novatech Door, I hope this helped you a little bit in taking that step in upgrading your exterior doors! It has completely revitalized the look and feel of our home. Not to mention our hydro bills ;).
